We marveled at the contrast of Joseph Smith's visit to the White House to meet with President Van Buren and President Hinckley's visit to the White House to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest honor given a United States citizen.

President Hinckley is patient with all the photographers who are constantly taking his picture. He did say to us one time, in a quiet tone, that "if all the cameras in the world were thrown into the ocean, there would be a great flood." Kirtland Temple.

No one could keep their eyes off of them. Their warmth was infectious.

I'll never forget when President Hinckley invited his precious wife to the stand in Moscow and introduced her to the 2,000 present as his "Babushka.''

When we first published it, one woman wrote to us and said,
"If people don't believe Mormons are Christians, just have them look at this picture of Sister Marjorie Hinckley." I so agree.

Young Women temple trip...by Sariah

Yesterday (Saturday, March 11) we took some of the young women to the temple to do baptisms. I'm so proud of them for putting aside a Saturday morning to go do this work! They are such awesome girls!

One funny story:

We took the girls to the cafeteria to have lunch before we went home. (They were so excited, I think it was the first time they had eaten there.) While we were all sitting at our table, a cute little old man came up to them to ask where their name tags were. The girls were confused so the man said, "Well, you're missionaries, aren't you?" They were shocked and found it entertaining that someone mistook them for 21 year old women.

Before we left, I asked another cute little old man to take our picture near the fountain.

Aren't they just beautiful?!?

Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast (2/28/06)

For Dr. Seuss' birthday, some of the MC ward first-graders celebrated with a green eggs and ham breakfast today. Brian and I attended with Harrison, and Kailyn & Garrett D., Bryant and Grandma Jean & Grandpa Rod S., Christi & Averi D., Marcie & Parker M., James & Michael C. all came from our ward. The kids were all provided with a "Cat in the Hat" striped hat and later had the chance to choose a book to keep. The food was furnished by local restaurant Beaches, and they provided door prizes in the form of restaurant gift certificates. Christi and Brian each won a gift certificate. We took the camera, so watch the blog for new pictures sometime soon!

P.S. The green eggs were just scrambled eggs colored green. The ham, thankfully, was its normal color. It was a cute breakfast - they also served a Gogurt, piece of fruit, and cup of juice.

Scary Situation (2/26/06)

One of the sisters in the MC ward answered the door last week to find a man, posing as a newspaper salesperson. When she told him she was not interested, he pulled out a gun and tried to force his way into her home! She was able to force the door closed, blocking him from entering. This happened in broad daylight!

PLEASE keep your home locked at all hours and do NOT answer the door unless you KNOW who it is!

Congratulations to our new Relief Society Presidency

MC ward's Relief Society had a change in leadership today (2/26/06). Mary Ann A., our president for almost four years, was released, along with her two counselors, Kathy L. and Beckie W. We appreciate all their hard work and efforts on our behalf, along with the other sisters who served in the presidency with Mary Ann.

We wish our new presidency well:
President - Sharon B. (of "Oink" fame - see "Enrichment Activities Abound!")
1st Counselor - Marilyn B.
2nd Counselor - Stephanie B.
Secretary - Michelle B., who was put in a few months ago to serve with Mary Ann

Sharon, who was the Compassionate Service Leader, was replaced by Sarah O. Good luck to all of you "newbies!" :)

Enrichment Activities Abound! (2/22/06)

One great thing about the new HFPE program is: now that we don't have a dinner and "big night" planned every month, the HFPE committee can now spend their time and imagination on other fun activities. Last week on the 16th, our ward sisters had a fun night of quilt-tying, games, and cookies, and the turn-out was great. We played a game called "Oink" that had some of us (Sharon) giggling hysterically. Seriously, I thought we were going to need a mop. ;) Suffice it to say, a good time was had by all.

Suggestions were made by some sisters who attended that we might also include aerobics classes three times a week, volleyball nights, dinners or lunches out, cooking groups, learning to can, quilt, or bake bread, ongoing projects where we make something we can't complete in one night, and the list went on. We're excited to be launching new activities in the next little while and we would LOVE SUGGESTIONS!!! We'd also like to hear what sisters in other wards are doing!

WARNING: Car Break-In at the Church...February 26

Sadly, criminals are snooping in our cars while we're attending church meetings. A MC ward sister had her car broken into during Sacrament meeting today. She had unfortunately left her purse in the car. Among her losses were $300 she was going to use to purchase food storage items. Please make sure that while you're at the church, you take valuables with you.
